Zakat-ul-Fitr/Fitrana
Zakat-ul-Fitr (Fitrana) is an obligatory Alms that must be paid on every individual in the household. It is meant to cleanse one’s fast; therefore, it should be delayed to the end of Ramadan, but must be paid before Imam begins the Eid prayer sermon.
Zakat-ul-Fitr is one Sa’ of wheat, barley, rice, flour or dates, or Fidyat Ta’am Miskeen. According to the Fiqh Council of North America, one Sa’ is about 5 pounds of wheat, barley, rice, flour or dates, the average price of which is about $12. Fidya is a day’s meals (Ta’am miskeen) estimated in the US in 2025 at about $15.
So Zakatu-ul-Fitr/Fitrana in the US in 2025 is $12-15/person. You can pay it in person or online here (select Fitrana under Category).
