fvamc statement of safety and respect
FVAMC is dedicated to cultivating a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all individuals. In alignment with this commitment, the Board of Trustees has established a comprehensive set of guidelines and expectations designed to ensure that every member of our community is treated with dignity and fairness. By adhering to these protocols, we aim to foster a positive and supportive atmosphere that empowers our community to thrive and succeed in our collective mission.
Furthermore, the Board has implemented a formal process for community members to file complaints and grievances. We believe this measure will enhance our culture of inclusion and mutual respect, promoting an environment where everyone feels valued and heard.
rules & guidelines
- FVAMC maintains a strict policy against harassment, including sexual harassment, of any kind. We are committed to taking immediate and appropriate action in response to any complaints or knowledge of violations. To ensure a thorough and accountable approach, FVAMC addresses all complaints related to harassment or discrimination through a formal, documented process.
- All students participating in FVAMC activities are expected to comply with the Code of Ethics and the Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, parents of students involved in FVAMC activities are required to adhere to the Parent Statement of Safety.
- It is essential that all interactions between adults and minors are conducted in a safe and lawful manner. The following framework outlines key Behaviors and Guidelines; however, it is not intended to be exhaustive of all rules and appropriate behaviors.
- FVAMC maintains a neutral stance on the celebration of non-Muslim holidays (e.g., Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays etc.). The decision to observe such holidays is left to the discretion of each family in accordance with their individual beliefs regarding halal and haram.
- FVAMC records audio and video surveillance on its premises 24/7. These recordings are used solely for operational purposes and will only be released to law enforcement or the courts upon request. FVAMC treats these recordings as confidential, and they will not be provided to private individuals or entities. We do not surveil areas – such as bathrooms – where privacy is expected.
- It is FVAMC policy that a partition no higher than 36 inches must be installed to separate the men’s and women’s prayer spaces within the Mussalla. Additionally, a minimum distance of 24 inches must be maintained between the two spaces. This goals of this policy are:
- Ensuring alignment with the Mission, Objectives, and Guiding Principles of FVAMC.
- A high barrier that obstructs women’s view of the presenter on the men’s side creates unequal treatment and may violate FVAMC policies.
- Raising the barrier could set a precedent for further segregation in shared spaces, such as the Social Hall, and could lead to separate entrances for men and women. This goes against FVAMC’s mission and character.
- FVAMC permits a maximum of four (4) fundraising events by outside organizations at FVAMC per year, with no more than one taking place during Ramadan. Any organization seeking to fundraise must be: (1) registered with a US State and the Federal government as 501c3 organization; (2) willing and able to furnish proof of 501 c3 status; and (3) listed as a four-star or higher charity on Charity Navigator. Selection of the organization is at the discretion of the President of the Board.
